i’m not messed up. part of him wondered if seth had ever bothered to tell himself the same thing, but he figured that the two of them had been doomed since day one. kate had a chance at some point, but fate had apparently had different plans for her path by tangling her with the two of them. he glanced down at her for a moment as she removed down to the pajamas covering her, hiding half a smirk at the sight. there was something naive and nearly innocent about the gesture, but he can’t place what exactly it is. “yeah, well, we’re not exactly good people either, kate.” words come out as nothing more than factual. the manhunt that had occurred existed for a reason –– the bank robbing, the arrests, the murders. they’re filled with shortcomings.
SHE’S NOT SO sure she believes in fate. god, either. he’s a firm maybe nowadays - something about all those unanswered prayers, y’know, leaves a bad taste in her mouth. ‘ the world isn’t black and white. ’ she says it like richard doesn’t know that already - like he’s not living proof. ‘ y’all are just…. gray areas. i don’t mind that. ’ she feels safe with them, at least. ten feet tall and not afraid of anything. another small drag of her cigarette, smoke’s released with a sigh. she chose to go with the two instead of her own brother for a reason - of course, neither of them seem to understand that. kate is making choices for herself now, in a way she hasn’t felt like she’s been allowed to do. in a way that maybe let some people down - namely scott. namely freddie. namely everyone who ever knew her before, but she’s allowed to be a little selfish now. right ?
