eve becomes SNAKE -- or snake becomes EVE. whichever way ROUND, she is FREER. hell follows her ‘round, hell called MAN, hell called ADAM, trying to make the CHANGING about him. adam demands of god why he is being PUNISHED like this. eve finds GRACE in the dark cracks between rocks. eve finds god in the SOLITUDE. eve finds ABSOLUTION in the red press of her knees / scales into the dirt. eve, UNBLINKING, watches adam rail. adam demands ANSWERS and eve / snake / eve exits the GARDEN to go and find them for HERSELF.

his head isn’t right. there’s no doubt as to why –– muscular arm lined with track marks along the inside, needle tossed in the tiny trash can beneath the desk of the motel room. it’s wrong, what he’s doing, to both himself and to her, but coping isn’t anything that he had a real capacity for, not without richie around. a person might consider the both of them nutjobs, but at least they balanced each other out when they were together. he sniffled, knuckles coming up to scratch his nose. “what are you so worried about?”
SHE DOESN’T CRY in front of him. saves it for when he’s asleep, or when she’s locked in the motel bathroom with the shower running. but, god, looking at the mess of a man before her just breaks her heart. tears don’t gather, but she’s got that old achy pain in her chest she used to get when the fuller family dog got too old to go up the stairs anymore. look at him. he’s deteriorated so much. her voice, though, is tinged with annoyance when she speaks. ‘ want me to list th’reasons, seth ? cause i’ll tell you right now, you’re not gonna like most of ‘em. ’
