eve becomes SNAKE -- or snake becomes EVE. whichever way ROUND, she is FREER. hell follows her ‘round, hell called MAN, hell called ADAM, trying to make the CHANGING about him. adam demands of god why he is being PUNISHED like this. eve finds GRACE in the dark cracks between rocks. eve finds god in the SOLITUDE. eve finds ABSOLUTION in the red press of her knees / scales into the dirt. eve, UNBLINKING, watches adam rail. adam demands ANSWERS and eve / snake / eve exits the GARDEN to go and find them for HERSELF.

“oh, i have NO RIGHT now?“ he’s exasperated, and her reply makes his seethe even more. seth should have known better than saying yes to kate coming with him. it was the guilt and his desire to make it up to her, but clearly he doesn’t have time to babysit a teenager. “i didn’t ask you to come here, so if you think you’re so capable of doin’ it on your own, then get hell out. be my guest.”
‘ NO, SETH, YOU don’t. you can’t keep PRETENDING i can’t take care of myself. ’ she’s still LEARNING, of course - but how is she supposed to when he won’t let her ? body STIFFENS at his scathing comment. she should be used to it by now, he’s always had a sort of open door policy, but it still stings. kate tries to keep the tremble out of her voice but doesn’t quite succeed, ‘ you don’t MEAN that. ’ he wouldn’t leave her. at least, she hopes he wouldn’t - they both know she’s not as independent as she says. he’s calling her BLUFF.
